Thorns In My Side

I've had a couple of diaries rolling around in my head for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately I work full-time and have other obligations in real life, so I haven't had the chance to sit down and flesh any of these out into a real diary. Over the flip, I shall go bullet-style and rant on Real ID, Matt's Law, outsourcing, food stamps, and maybe a little bit on Hillary Clinton. Real ID: I used to be on the fence about Real ID, especially in terms of voting. I figured "Hey, even people who don'

Tagged!

Dorothy from Field Stone Cottage tagged me for this meme. If you haven??t visited her blog yet, head on over and have a read. Before I begin the meme, I have to give you the rules first?? So here are the rules of the game: 1. The rules of the game get posted at the beginning. 2. Each player answers the questions about themselves. 3. At the end of the post, each player then tags five people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they??ve bee

The Great Outdoors

???Not that long ago, the soundtrack of a young person??s days and nights was composed largely of the notes of nature. Most people were raised on the land, worked on the land, and were often buried on the same land. The relationship was direct. Today, the life of the senses is, literally, electrified. One obvious contributor is electronics: television and computers. But simpler, early technologies played important roles. Air conditioning, for example?? Few of us are about to trade in our air condi

Going from "It" to "Out": Dealing with network withdrawal

Sunday after going to church and eating lunch with my family, I got to relax by the pond, watch the millows meander and the dragonflies hum as I fished for catfish. I enjoyed being "out" of it. We went home and watched the The Pride of the Yankees, about baseball great Lou Gehrig which is worth seeing just to see the Real Babe Ruth play himself and had a very interesting discussion about how quickly a person arises into "fame" and then can be snuffed out due to health reasons or retirement.

James Carville

James Carville Posted by knsheppard on Mar 26th, 2008 Something odd happened with my reading habits again. Two books, which in my mind couldn??t be further apart, both appealed to the same person as an example: James Carville. Carville is known for working on Bill Clinton??s presidential campaign in 1992 and for his simple yet strategic tactics. While it??s taking me a little bit of time to get through them, both The New Christians by Tony Jones and The War Room by Warren Kinsella have been cap

Get In The Game, But Not Without A Coach by Craig Valentine

This is the second time I am reading Craig??s article and I strongly recommend you to invest 5 minutes of your time to read it as well. Why you may ask. Because you are about to uncover one of the secrets of world-class speakers. By the way, he is 1999 World Champion of Public Speaking. I read this article about three years ago when I was still considered a rookie in public speaking. And right after that, I signed up for a coaching program led by five of the world champions of public speaking.

What Does Wellness Of The Body Really Mean?

Wellness is the state of good physical and emotional health, and is further enhanced by a balanced diet, exercise, and healthy living habits. Nutrition refers to providing our bodies with the right foods and nutrients, in our ability to keep it healthy and functioning properly. Healthy living habits are those that do not cause us harm, such as avoiding smoking, drugs, and drinking excessive alcohol. Wellness of the body occurs when all the body functions, both physical and mental are perf

McCain on the Red Phone

McCain on the Red Phone It is 3 a.m., and the stillness of the White House night is shattered by the ringing of the red phone. President John McCain, rousing himself from a deep sleep, turns on the light and picks up the receiver. A U.S. embassy in a Middle Eastern country, he is told, has been blown up, and al-Qaeda is taking credit. McCain takes a deep breath. "Character counts, my friend," he says. "Bomb Iran. Bomb, bomb Iran." There is a rustling of blankets, and, brushing aside

Restraint Use Declining

I found an article about nursing homes and restraint use. WASHINGTON AP - The use of physical restraints on nursing home patients declined nearly 40 percent nationally in recent years as the federal government, states and the nursing home industry placed greater emphasis on eliminating what once was a common practice. Overall, about 5.9 percent of 1.5 million long-term patients were physically restrained repeatedly in 2006. That??s a drop from 9.7 percent in 2002. This is great news! Many
